Oreo Pudding Recipe

This is a recipe which I came up few days back when I wanted to make a desert recipe using a pack of Oreo which I had on hand. Of course I can eat it on its own, but I wanted to make something with it.

Jump to:

This pudding is a little different from the usual pudding recipes as paneer is used to give it a rich and creamy texture. It tastes best when served chilled and makes a delicious dessert for both kids and adults. Learn how to make this easy oreo pudding with step by step pictures.

About Oreo Pudding Recipe

I had some oreo biscuits at home and wanted to make a simple dessert with them. So I decided to try this oreo pudding and it turned out really good. This is a slightly different version of the usual pudding, as it uses paneer and condensed milk for a creamy texture and mild sweetness.

To make the pudding, oreo biscuits are mixed with melted butter to form the base. Then paneer, condensed milk and vanilla are blended together until smooth. Gelatin is prepared separately and mixed into the pudding mixture. It is then refrigerated until set.

In this pudding, the paneer gives a creamy texture without the addition of cream cheese. The paneer also makes this dessert more protein-rich. Since this doesn’t have any cream cheese or cream, this is relatively healthy.

Ingredients

  • Oreo cookies : Use regular flavoured oreo cookies to make the base. You can use any chocolate biscuits you prefer.
  • Unsalted butter : Melt the butter before mixing it with the crushed oreos. It helps bind the crumbs together and keeps the base firm.
  • Homemade Paneer : Use full fat fresh, soft homemade paneer for the pudding layer. It makes the pudding healthy and also high in protein.
  • Condensed milk : There is no sugar in this recipe. Sweetness comes from the Sweetened condensed milk
  • Vanilla extract : use the best quality.
  • Gelatin : Gelatin helps the pudding set and hold its shape.

Step by Step Pictures

Make Base

1)Start by adding the oreo biscuits to a blender jar or food processor and powder it fine.

2)This is what I use for the base. It adds crispy buttery texture.

3)Take butter in a sauce pan and melt it on low heat until completely melted.

4)Add the crushed oreos into the melted butter.

5)Mix the powdered oreo biscuits into the melted butter.

6)Spoon the oreo biscuits into a plastic wrap lined ramekins. Press evenly and place this in fridge for atleast 30 minutes so the base sets.

Bloom gelatin

7)Take gelatin in a sauce pan. Add cold water over it and mix well. Leave it to sit for atleast 10 minutes so the gelatin can soften and bloom.

8)This is how it looks once the gelatin has softened. It must have absorbed all the water and has become gel like.

9)Now you have to heat this on low until the gelatin has completely melted.

Make Creamy Filling

10)Take homemade paneer in a blender jar. You can use cream cheese instead of paneer.

11)Add in sweetened condensed milk.

12)Add in some vanilla extract.

13)Now blend this till it is smooth and blended well.

14)Pour the blended paneer mixture into the melted gelatin mixture.

15)Mix it really well and add in crushed oreo cookies into the mixture.

16)mix it well, this is your custard mixture.

Setting oreo pudding

17)Now remove the base from fridge and pour the custard into the cookie base.

18)Place this into the fridge and allow it to firm up completely. I usually leave it overnight in fridge.

19)once the pudding is set, un mould and serve. I topped it with some more crushed oreos.

20)Enjoy.

Expert Tips

  • Line the mould with cling wrap before adding the oreo base. This makes it easier to lift and unmould the pudding once it has set.
  • Instead of ramekin, you can set the pudding in small glasses, dessert cups or jars. This makes serving easier.
  • Blend the paneer, condensed milk and vanilla until completely smooth.
  • Bloom the gelatin first, then gently melt and mix it with the blended mixture. This helps the pudding set evenly without lumps.
  • Refrigerate the pudding for at least 4 hours until it is completely set before unmoulding.
  • For a richer chocolate flavour, melt some dark chocolate and spread it over the top and refrigerate.

Storage and Serving

Keep the oreo pudding covered and refrigerated. It is best to enjoy within 2 to 3 days for the best taste and texture.

Serve the oreo pudding chilled straight from the refrigerator with some extra oreo crumbs or hot chocolate sauce on top. You can also add a little whipped cream, chocolate fudge sauce for an indulgent dessert
