About Instant Jalebi

Jalebi is an Indian deep fried and sugar drenched sweet that is served hot with rabri in Northern part of India. You can easy call them as Indian funnel cake. It is crispy, sugary and slightly tangy.

If you have never heard about jalebi, it is a deep fried Indian sweet which is then drenched in sweet sugar syrup. It taste more or like honeycomb. Yes HONEYCOMB. Similar to jangri.

Traditionally jalebi is made with a fermented batter which creates the iconic slight tangy taste to it. But this version which I made is an Instant recipe and it can be made within 40 minutes.

Ingredients for jalebi is super simple. I made a batter with plain flour, yogurt, baking soda, salt, food colour and lemon juice. This batter is added to a piping bag and piped on a skillet with ghee or oil. You have to fry them till crispy.

Final step is soaking the fried jalebi in a saffron cardamom flavoured sugar syrup which makes it sweet. I like to add some lemon juice to the syrup as well which adds a tangy taste that is so iconic to the jalebi.

Traditionally jalebi is serve it piping hot with some milk or rabri poured on top. It taste divine.
