The Ranbir Kapoor and Yash led Ramayana release is round the corner, and the early response to the pre-sales is strong, though it is yet to get towards the bumper levels that the trade expected to. As of Monday at 2 PM, Ramayana has sold approximately 1 lakh tickets in the top 3 national chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis – and the real game of pre-sales is expected to commence from the second half of the week.

Ramayana advances are indicating a career-best opening for both Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, surpassing their previous best, Animal and Toxic, which opened around the Rs. 50 crore mark in Hindi. The target for Ramayana will be to surpass the first-day business of Dhurandhar 2, but at the moment, that seems like a difficult ask, as the pre-Diwali factor will also come into play.
Ramayana will be aiming to sell around 5 lakh tickets in the national chains for the opening day, which would set it up well for a start in the north of Rs. 60 crore, and the movement in non-national chains will decide if it has a real shot of even topping the Rs. 70 crore mark.
The advances of Ramayana are good outside of the opening day too, and that’s always a great sign indicating interest in the film. The first 4 days might fall short of expectations, but the real game will begin from Monday, and if the content lands, the sky is the limit for Ramayana.
