CM Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has targeted Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin following the arrest of former Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in an alleged Rs 100-crore corruption case. The party’s IT wing accused Stalin of hypocrisy and questioned his response to the allegations against the former minister.

In a series of social media posts, the TVK IT wing also referred to Mahesh’s remarks after the 2025 Karur stampede, in which 41 people were killed during a rally addressed by actor-turned-politician and TVK chief Vijay.

The party used the former minister’s statements about repeatedly asking people to follow safety conditions at the gathering to attack the DMK leadership.

‘Flapping Mouth Like A Bengal Monitor Lizard’

In one post, the TVK IT wing asked Stalin whether he had been asleep while in power and accused him of making statements without addressing corruption allegations involving party leaders.

“Stalin sir, who can’t be caught… Were you sleeping while in power? When your ministers have racked up so many corruption cases, why, sir, are you just flapping your mouth like a Bengal monitor lizard?” the post said.

Another post carried the phrase “Conditions are followed”, accompanied by a winking emoji. The remark appeared to refer to a viral video recorded after the Karur stampede, in which Mahesh, who was the education minister at the time, was seen breaking down in tears while speaking about repeated appeals to the public to comply with the conditions laid down for the gathering.

Anbil Mahesh Arrested In Alleged Rs 100-Crore Case

Mahesh was arrested by the Chennai Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Monday, shortly after the Madras High Court rejected his anticipatory bail petition.

The case concerns allegations that money was collected from private school managements in exchange for permanent recognition, licences and other government approvals.

The arrest prompted the TVK IT wing to intensify its criticism of the DMK leadership, questioning the party’s response to corruption allegations involving its leaders.

    TVK Calls DMK ‘Corruption-Soaked’

In another lengthy social media post, the TVK IT wing described the DMK as “corruption-soaked” and accused it of engaging in corruption across sectors, alleging that no department had been spared.

“Even the corruption-soaked, stinking DMK-aren’t they a disaster in every wedding house? Is it fair for those who have staged corruption games relentlessly in every sector, without sparing a single department, to now don the guise of the virtuous?” the post said.

It further alleged that the party allowed those accused of corruption to go free, adding: “The DMK that lets them all run free, now the law and justice are letting it run free for corruption cases too.”

The TVK also questioned whether the DMK could continue to promote its political message of “pure power” amid corruption allegations.

“Did you think that the corrupt power, the evil force DMK, which dons the guise of the virtuous, can wildly rant about ‘pure power’ from now on, and the people will sprinkle you with rosewater?” the post asked.

The remarks mark a fresh attack by the TVK on the DMK following the arrest of its former education minister. The corruption allegations against Mahesh remain allegations, while the party’s social media posts have accused the DMK leadership of hypocrisy.
