Asian Para Games gold medallist Neeraj Yadav has allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison at his residence on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026

Hangzhou Asian Para Games gold medallist Neeraj Yadav’s suicide had brought some startling details to the fore, with the woman who took him to the hospital claiming that she was in a ‘friendship’ with him since December and had recently had a fallout, which the police are seeing as a possible reason for the death.

The Jafrabad Police Station is holding proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

Although it was assumed that a career setback, a doping suspension, was the major reason for the suicide, the presence of a woman in the picture seems to have given the death a new angle.

A senior police officer said that the woman travelled to Sonipat in Haryana on Tuesday to meet Neeraj and told him that she could no longer stay in touch with him.

“Thereafter, Yadav dropped her at Maujpur, Delhi, in his Scorpio. At around 9 pm, the woman became suspicious and reached near Gate No. 1 of Maujpur Metro Station, where she found Yadav lying on the road beside his car,” the police said.

“She subsequently took him to the hospital for medical assistance, where he was declared brought dead. Further inquiry revealed that Yadav was a para-athlete and was running an online sports academy in Sonipat under the name Anshneer Sports Academy,” the police added.

Neeraj is survived by his wife and their three-year-old daughter.

Diagnosed with post-polio residual paralysis at the age of seven, Neeraj took up wheelchair tennis before transitioning to para-athletics, where he went on to compete at the international level.

Neeraj won three gold medals in the F55 category at the Asian Para Games, claiming the men’s javelin throw title in Jakarta in 2018 before bagging gold in both javelin and discus in Hangzhou in 2023.

Neeraj was serving a four-year ban after testing positive for a prohibited substance. The sanction resulted in the loss of both gold medals he won at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games, along with the associated government cash reward and prospects of bagging a government job.
