The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain over Tamil Nadu and Kerala through November 10. Puducherry and Karaikal also remain under isolated heavy rain watch during this spell. For candidates with exams today, plan travel buffers and watch official postponements before leaving home. Stick to verified updates only.
IMD bulletins indicate isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from November 7–10, and over Kerala and Mahe on November 7–8. District colour codes change during the day. Use IMD’s district-wise warning map for date-wise status, and the Kerala Met Centre page for today’s advisory.
IMD heavy-rain alert: where it applies today and tomorrow
Today, November 8, heavier spells in Kerala are limited to select districts, while Tamil Nadu and Puducherry face isolated heavy rain. Tomorrow, activity persists mainly over Tamil Nadu. Avoid crowdsourced lists; cross-check district colours on IMD’s GIS map by selecting November 8–10 before planning travel.
Exam-day travel buffer: how much time to add
Add 60–90 minutes for city travel across Chennai, Coimbatore and Kochi corridors. Expect slower buses, waterlogged junctions and longer last-mile walks. Prefer suburban rail or Metro where operational. Pack hall ticket in a waterproof folder, carry spare photos, two ID copies and a charged power bank. Recheck IMD nowcast before departure.
How to verify PSC and university postponements fast
For Kerala PSC, first check the official “Examination Postponed” page, then “Examination updates”, and your Thulasi alerts. For TNPSC, rely on tnpsc.gov.in notifications or press releases, not social media forwards. For universities, open the exam wing or press release pages and confirm hall-ticket date stamps.
Centre change, hall ticket reprint and reporting tips
Centre changes are allowed only if the exam authority opens a window; otherwise, report to the allotted venue. Reprint TNPSC hall tickets from the official exam portal; Kerala PSC candidates should use the exam management system. Carry two printouts, arrive 30 minutes early and follow invigilator instructions.
Helplines and safety checklist for candidates
Save emergency numbers: Kerala State 1070, District 1077, ERSS 112; Puducherry State 1070 and District 1077. Avoid flooded underpasses, check rail advisories, keep footwear with grip and store documents in zip-locks. Monitor IMD’s district-wise alerts before starting and while en route to centres.
