A faculty member at an Aligarh college has been booked for allegedly sending obscene messages to a female student, police reported on Sundaym reported PTI. Officials stated that the victim had lodged a complaint with the police.

The issue had been escalating for the past two days, with students, led by members of BJP Yuva Morcha and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), demanding the arrest of Shajruddin, who has been suspended from Varshney Degree College for two months pending an internal inquiry.

Students protesting on the college campus accused the police of “official negligence and delay” in addressing the complaint.

BJP Yuva Morcha leader Amit Goswami warned that if the faculty member was not arrested within 24 hours, their organization would initiate an agitation.

In response to the protest, the college administration announced Shajruddin’s suspension for two months, pending an internal inquiry, the report added.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered at the Gandhi Park police station.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) MS Pathak said the accused’s mobile phone has been seized. “Further action will be taken after examining the evidence, including mobile phone records,” he said.

Meanwhile, last month, a disturbing video surfaced from an engineering college in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, allegedly showing the college principal molesting a female student. The footage showed a sick student lying on a hospital bed while the accused principal was seen touching her inappropriately from under a blanket. His furtive glances around the room suggest an awareness of wrongdoing, even as the act is caught on camera from the front.

Thereafter, massive protests erupted at the engineering college. A purported video of the protest against the harassment shows students encircling an effigy of the principal, holding flashlights in their hands as the effigy is set on fire. An investigation committee was formed by the government and its head.
