Despite the growing popularity of EVs, one of the biggest hurdles they face from an ownership point of view is their generally higher price compared to the ICE offerings. The higher upfront cost of EVs, which is majorly due to the battery pack, makes ICE cars more accessible to the public from a financial perspective. To address this concern, EV manufacturers have started offering their cars with battery-as-as service (Baas) scheme, which essentially is a subscription plan for the battery pack. By separating the vehicle and battery costs, upfront price of some EVs have gone down by a substantial margin. Here is a list of all the EVs currently on sale with a BaaS rental scheme.
MG Comet EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 4.92 lakh and asks Rs 3.2 per km as battery subscription fee
The MG Comet EV is one of the most affordable EVs in India, priced from Rs 7.63 lakh. Lower trimsare offered with a 17.3 kWh battery, while higher-spec trims get a 17.4 kWh battery pack. However, the BaaS scheme lowers this price tag by Rs 2.71 lakh to Rs 4.92 lakh. However, if such a scheme is opted, a subscription cost of Rs 3.2 is to be paid for the battery pack every km. If you do the match, this saved upfront cost of Rs 2.71 lakh can pay the battery subscription fee for over 80,000km.
However, do note that when MG introduced BaaS plan for the Comet EV in 2024 the subscription fee was Rs 2.5 per km, which is currently Rs 3.2 per km, meaning the manufacturer can hike the battery rental cost with time, which can slightly affect long-term savings for buyers.
Tata Punch EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 6.49 lakh and asks Rs 2.6 per km as battery subscription fee
The Tata Punch EV facelift is the manufacturer’s first electric offering to be offered with a BaaS scheme. While regular prices start from Rs 9.69 lakh, the battery subscription plan lowers this upfront cost by Rs 3.20 lakh, but asks Rs 2.6 per km as the rental fee. Notably, Tata Motors has revealed BaaS prices of only the entry-spec Smart trim. However, this is the most affordable battery subscription fee asked for any car in India.
MG Windsor EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 9.99 lakh and asks Rs 3.9 per km as battery subscription fee
MG introduced BaaS ownership plan in India with the Windsor EV, which was launched in September 2024 initially with a 38kWh battery pack. A larger 52.9 kwh battery pack was introduced to the EV in May 2025. The Windsor EV’s battery rental fee differs between the two battery pack options. With the smaller battery, the subscription fee is Rs 3.9 per km, and for the larger battery it is Rs Rs 4.5 per km. Such a scheme returns benefits up to Rs 5.11 lakh on the upfront cost.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
BaaS price starts from Rs 10.99 lakh and asks Rs 3.99per km as battery subscription fee
Maruti Suzuki’s first EV, the e Vitara, is also being offered with the BaaS scheme, the subscription fee of which differs with the chosen battery pack. With the smaller 49kWh battery, Maruti charges Rs 3.99 per km, while with the larger battery pack, a fee of Rs 4.39 per km is charged. This results in an upfront cost saving of up to Rs 5.50 lakh, which is the most for any EV in India.
MG ZS EV
BaaS price starts from Rs 13 lakh and asks Rs 4.5 per km as battery subscription fee
The ZS EV is MG’s first electric offering in India from 2019, which received its current-spec mid-cycle update in 2022. BaaS scheme for the EV was, however, introduced alongside the Comet EV. The MG ZS EV is offered with a larger 50.3 kWh battery pack, and with the BaaS scheme, it has a subscription fee is Rs 4.5 per km, which is similar to the Windsor EV Pro version. The upfront cost saving of up to Rs 5.24 lakh is also the highest in MG’s electric lineup.
