As mentioned earlier, the Discovery Sport is available with a choice of two engines: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol that produces 250hp and 365Nm and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel mill that puts out 204hp and 430Nm. Both come with mild-hybrid assist and are paired with an automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels (AWD).

While the top speed of both versions is electronically limited to 209kph, the 0-100kph timings differ. The petrol is quicker to sprint from a standstill to 100kph in a claimed 8.1 seconds, while the diesel takes 8.9 seconds.

Inside, it features a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system. It is also equipped with a fixed panoramic glass roof, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate and 14-way powered front seats with heating and ventilation, along with a memory function for the driver’s seat.

Its safety suite comprises 7 airbags, a digital inside rearview mirror (IRVM), a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
