Anamika Khanna opens Hyderabad flagship store, steps into handbags

Designer Anamika Khanna has launched a new flagship store in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills for both her Anamika Khanna and AK|OK brands. Khanna has also expanded her product offering by launching her first ever luxury handbag collection.

“It is with great joy that we share the news of our new address in Hyderabad,” announced the eponymous designer on Facebook. “This is a space that we have built with great care and time. We truly hope that here, we celebrate you, find inspiration and continue to push creative boundaries. We hope our fashion becomes a part of your personal story.”

The store is located at the Achyutha Co-Operative Society and features elements reminiscent of a modern art gallery. Sculptural installations and statement art pieces are found throughout the space and botanical elements add a natural feel to the immersive, large scale boutique. 

The brand’s maiden handbag line, a collection of statement metal evening bags, has launched across its flagship stores. The collection is designed as a set of future heirlooms, created by metalworkers in Bengal and incorporating jewellery manufacturing techniques. 

“Bags have been a part of my thought process for a long time,” Khanna told Vogue India about the collection launch. “I wanted to step into a space that felt fresh for me, but also where I had something original to say. The world is saturated with bags, and I didn’t want to add noise unless it was something meaningful. Also, it felt like a natural extension of what we already do. So many of our clients ask how to finish a look, especially with couture, and what to carry with it. That’s where the idea began to grow.”
