Aprilia RS 457, Tuono 457 now get an extended warranty in India

Aprilia India recently responded to concerns regarding the reliability of its parallel twin engine in the new RS 457 and the Tuono 457. Building on this, the company has improved the duration of its warranty and also improved one of the problematic terms associated with the warranty.

  1. Some customers have reported significant engine reliability issues in the past few months
  2. Aprilia recently stated that these issues have been addressed

Aprilia RS 457 engine issue

The brand recently released a statement regarding the engine issues

The issues being reported by customers began coming to light a few months back. Having spoken to some of the affected customers we have learned that the issues largely seem to be based around two areas – the engine head or with the cam chain tensioner. In some cases, customers reported a loss in top-end performance which was said to be due to the engines losing compression and there were a few isolated incidents of engine failures. The customers we spoke to said that Aprilia India had addressed their issues, either with a head replacement or with a new engine, depending on the case.

About two weeks ago, Aprilia India released a statement that a majority of these issues are attributed to only two factors – Unauthorised Aftermarket Modifications and Irregular Service Schedules. The company went on to state that “for the few genuine cases that arose, we promptly addressed and resolved them in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to our customers.” You can click here to read the entire official statement as well as our take on the matter.

Aprilia Rs 457 extended warranty details

Whether the issues have been fully resolved or not is something that only time can confirm. However, what is without doubt is that Aprilia India will have some work on its hands with rebuilding customer confidence, especially for such a high value product that has a rather limited customer base. To the company’s credit, this extended warranty is a step in the right direction.

While the company has not officially announced this, dealer level circulars have revealed that the Aprilia RS 457 warranty has now been extended from 3 years and 36,000km to 4 years and 48,000km. The Tuono 457 warranty has also been extended in a similar manner.

Another appreciable move is that Aprilia India has removed the single owner clause. Earlier, the warranty was only valid for the first owner, but can now be availed by subsequent customers that have bought the bike second hand, as long as it meets the terms and conditions of the warranty.

Will this extended warranty offer sufficient peace of mind if you’ve been thinking about buying one of these new Aprilia twin cylinder motorcycles? Let us know in the comments section below.
