F1 side McLaren enjoyed a successful outing at Spielberg on Sunday as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri completed a one-two finish for the team at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium, while his Prancing Horse teammate Lewis Hamilton came in fourth on the day.

The win helped Norris cut down championship leader Piastri’s lead at the top, while McLaren took their team tally to 374 points following their triumph at Spielberg.

“Pushing the whole way through… tricky, hot, tiring, but the perfect result for us as a team, a 1-2 again. We had a great battle, that’s for sure,” said race winner Norris.

“We had a great battle, that’s for sure, a lot of fun, and a lot of stress,” he said speaking on the one-two finish alongside Piastri.

Piastri leads the drivers’ standings with 198 points to his name, while Norris took his tally to 176 points with the win on Sunday. Four-time reigning champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who registered a did not finish result in Austria, stands third in the overall table with 155 points, followed by Mercedes’ George Russell in fourth with 136 points.

“I hope it was good watching because from inside the car it was hard work. Yeah, I tried my absolute best,” the Australian said following the conclusion of the race.

Liam Lawson achieved a career-best sixth place for RB on a disappointing day for the side as Verstappen retired on the opening lap after being hit by Mercedes’ teenage rookie Kimi Antonelli. Verstappen is now 61 points behind Piastri.

Two-time champion Fernando Alonso finished seventh, followed by Gabriel Bortoleto and his Sauber team-mate Nico Hulkenberg, showcasing the future Audi team’s significant potential. Esteban Ocon secured tenth place for Haas.

The race began with a frantic prelude, during which Carlos Sainz’s Williams failed to leave the grid and caught fire in the pit lane, causing a 10-minute delay. The second attempt at starting the race delivered immediate drama.

Norris had a clean start while, behind him, Piastri overtook Leclerc on the outside of Turn One. Meanwhile, Antonelli locked up and lost control at Turn Three, colliding with Verstappen’s Red Bull.
