Azim Premji University near Sarjapur experienced heightened tension after students claimed a fellow student was assaulted during an ABVP protest. The protesters alleged that ABVP members disrupted a campus event discussing women’s issues in Kashmir, forcefully entering the premises, derailing the discussion, and vandalising university property.

Students further accused ABVP members of labelling them as “anti-nationals,” which escalated tensions and deepened divides within the campus community.

In response, students presented a list of demands to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, seeking his intervention. Their key demands included:

• A state government ban on the RSS.

• Immediate action against the ABVP activists allegedly involved in vandalism.

• Ensuring protection for students, faculty, and academic discussions on campus.

The unrest continued into the night with a late-night protest held on campus. Students chanted slogans as tensions remained high following the confrontation.

Police maintained a vigil outside the university as a precaution, but the protest remained confined within the campus.

FIR Filed Against ABVP Activists

An FIR was registered against ABVP activists in connection with the incident. Sarjapur police detained several ABVP workers, subsequently registering a case at the Sarjapur Police Station.

According to PTI, ABVP activists were arrested for staging a protest against Azim Premji University on Tuesday, alleging that an event at the institution promoted separatism in Jammu and Kashmir and insulted the Indian Army. Visuals from outside the university; police personnel deployed.

The detained activists were brought before a judge in Anekal, who granted bail to 21 individuals. The ABVP workers were released around 3.30 am following the bail order.
