Benelli recently peppered the TRK 502 line-up with some feature additions and a pretty sizable price hike, so it’s a good time to pit the TRK against its direct rival, the Honda NX500, on paper.
Engine & output | ||
---|---|---|
Benelli TRK 502 | Honda NX500 | |
Engine | 500cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled | 471cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled |
Power | 47.6hp at 8500rpm | 47.6hp at 8600rpm |
Torque | 46Nm at 6000rpm | 43Nm at 6500rpm |
Gearbox | 6-speed | 6-speed |
Both the TRK 502 and NX500 are very closely matched on the engine and peak output fronts. The difference actually lies in how each bike sounds because while both have twin-cylinder engines, they have different firing orders. The Honda NX500, in trademark Japanese fashion, has a 180-degree firing order, while the Benelli TRK 502 has a 360-degree firing order (something that’s becoming increasingly rare these days), which lends it a deeper, more pleasing exhaust note. For 2025, the TRK 502 has (finally!) received a slipper clutch, which now puts it on par with the NX500 in that regard.
Benelli TRK 502 vs Honda NX500: weight and dimensions
TRK is substantially heavier than the NX but has a lower perch and more GC
Weight & dimensions | ||
---|---|---|
Benelli TRK 502 | Honda NX500 | |
Seat height | 800mm | 830mm |
Weight | 228kg (dry) | 196kg (kerb) |
Ground clearance | 190mm | 181mm |
Fuel tank capacity | 20 litres | 17.5 litres |
Wheelbase | 1505mm | 1447mm |
Benelli’s Achilles heel has always been its portly weight number, and that carries on for 2025, too. The company hasn’t listed the TRK’s kerb weight on its official website, but even its 228 kilo dry weight figure is one that puts it in line with more powerful 900cc-1300cc ADV bikes. With its 20-litre tank brimmed and all the essential fluids filled, the TRK 502’s kerb weight will be knocking on the door of 250kg. Some consolation is that the TRK has a more palatable 800mm seat height while also having marginally more ground clearance than the NX500.
Speaking of the NX500, while it has a taller 830mm perch, its sub-200kg kerb weight and much shorter wheelbase will mean that the Honda will feel more manageable than the Benelli, both at a standstill and while on the move. That said, the Honda also looks and feels much smaller than the Benelli, and it doesn’t have the same big-bike presence.
Benelli TRK 502 vs Honda NX500: suspension, brakes and tyres
Both quite closely matched, 502X can be had with cross-spoke rims
Suspension, brakes & tyres | ||
---|---|---|
Benelli TRK 502 | Honda NX500 | |
Suspension (F/R) | USD fork / Monoshock | USD fork / Monoshock |
Brakes (F/R) | 320mm discs / 260mm disc | 296mm discs / 240mm disc |
Tyres (F/R) | 120/70-ZR17 / 160/60-ZR17 | 110/80-R19 / 160/60-R17 |
Cycle parts are another area where both bikes have taken different approaches. While the suspension setup might seem similar on paper, the TRK has a fat 50mm fork, compared to the Honda’s slimmer 41mm unit. The Benelli also has beefier brakes, but none of this really means it’s got a leg up on the Honda; Instead, this componentry suits the TRK better, keeping its heavier weight in mind. While the base 502 runs on 17-inch alloys at both ends, you can also opt for the 502X, which comes with 19/17-inch (like the NX) cross-spoke wheels that permit tubeless tyres, and a higher 220mm of ground clearance, too.
Benelli TRK 502 vs Honda NX500: features
Benelli is the more feature-rich option, but NX isn’t lacking
For 2025, Benelli has added a generous helping of features to the TRK 502, such as a colour TFT display with screen mirroring, heated grips and seat, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a USB-C charger, and even adjustable handlebar mounts so that the rider can tailor the riding position to suit them better. The NX500, while not as generously equipped, still has the basics covered and has a Bluetooth-compatible TFT display and switchable traction control.
Benelli TRK 502 vs Honda NX500: price
TRK prices have risen considerably, price delta to Honda is quite big
Price | ||
---|---|---|
Benelli TRK 502 | Honda NX500 | |
Price (Ex-showroom, Delhi) | Rs 6.20 lakh | Rs 5.90 lakh |
With its 2025 update, the Benelli TRK 502 has become a bit more expensive than it was before (by Rs 35,000, to be precise), and it is now more expensive than the Honda NX500 by Rs 30,000, too. Moving up to the TRK 502X increases the price gap to a significant Rs 80,000. It remains to be seen how many buyers pony up the extra dough for the TRK over the NX (which has cemented its reputation as a bulletproof touring rig at this end of the market).
