It’s yet another final for Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon yet again, as the Spaniard put away the World No. 5 Taylor Fritz in four sets to book his place in his 3rd consecutive final on Friday.
Alcaraz was pushed to his limits, yet ousted the American in four sets of 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 to reach the final.
Fritz, playing in his first-ever Grand Slam final, was expected to be nervy. But the American held his own against the two-time defending champion, despite losing the first two games.
Fritz pushed Alcaraz to a close 4-5 set, when the Spaniard took care of business as usual to close out the set and take the upper hand.
The World No. 2 Alcaraz was visibly more upbeat and taking it with the winners against the American. But, the second set would start with an exchange of blows, as each player respectively took over the game with their serve to push to a 3-3 stalemate.
Fritz came close to breaking Alcaraz, but the defending champion always found the answer to keep himself alive, as the set eventually took its course as Fritz took the slender 6-5 lead over the Spaniard.
And in the blink of an eye, in the 13th game of the set, Alcaraz would fumble as Fritz would run away with a perfect game to steal the second set.
Neither player was willing to give in, so it was set to boil down to whoever wanted to take the win away more badly.
It proved to be Alcaraz in the third set, who broke Fritz in the third game and held onto the slender advantage to eventually close out the World No. 5 6-3 and reclaim the lead in the match.
Fritz dug deep to keep himself in the fight, as the fourth set ensued with a back-and-forth exchange of games.
The American pushed Alcaraz to his limits, yet again extending the set to 5-5.
With two games left and a serve each left for the other, Alcaraz swept through his game with ease to pile the pressure on the American. But Fritz responded with a fiery blitz of his own to push the set to a tiebreaker.
With all to play for, neither would cave in as it was once again pushed to 7-6 with Alcaraz taking the upper hand, as he went on to wrap it up with the next point to seal the match.
