Indian badminton star PV Sindhu moved into the subsequent round of the China Masters following her triumph over Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong on Thursday.
The 30-year-old Sindhu put it past her Thai opponent with relative ease as she secured a win in straight games 21-15, 21-15 in a fixture that lasted just over 40 minutes.
A day earlier, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced with a win over Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap, while Lakshya Sen was eliminated.
Rankireddy and Shetty secured a 24-22, 21-13 victory in straight games against the Malaysian duo in a match lasting just over 42 minutes. Conversely, Sen was defeated 11-21, 10-21 by Toma Junior Popov in a 30-minute contest, ending India’s men’s singles challenge following Ayush Shetty’s loss in his opening match.
The mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also exited the tournament after losing to second-seeded local favourites Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping 19-21, 13-21.
Satwik and Chirag faced a tough challenge in the opening game, which was closely contested until the end, but the Indian duo managed to edge past and seal it in 21 minutes.
They took an early lead in the second game, but Arif and Yap fought back to make it 5-5. However, the Indians quickly established an 11-6 advantage, which the Malaysians could not overcome.
