The Delhi High Court on Friday requested details from Hindu College, located in the capital, regarding the seats allocated under extracurricular activities (ECA) or sports quotas for the academic year 2025-26, reported PTI.

Justice Vikas Mahajan instructed the college administration to reserve a seat under the quota for the 2025-26 academic year while deliberating on a plea seeking its allocation to a lawn tennis player.

The petitioner, Rawat, has contested the college’s non-implementation of the 5 per cent ECA/sports quota for undergraduate admissions, as mandated by Delhi University.

Advocate Jeetender Gupta, representing the petitioner who claims to be a gold medallist at CBSE nationals, argued that the stipulation in the brochure regarding the sports quota was not being adhered to by the college, the report added.

Based on the number of seats available at the college, Gupta stated that it should reserve at least 47 seats for the ECA/sports quota.

However, the college has only reserved 20 seats—10 for ECA and 10 for sports quota, he contended.

Furthermore, Gupta highlighted that within the sports quota, reservations are limited to three sports: basketball, cricket, and football.
