Maths and Physics are essential subjects for anyone aspiring to become a pilot. Students can begin pilot training after Class 12, provided they are at least 17 years old.
According to Air India pilot Captain Chandan Kumar, becoming a pilot is challenging but achievable with discipline and dedication. Apart from Maths and Physics, aspiring pilots must learn meteorology, navigation, communication and aircraft systems, which form the foundation of pilot training.Academic knowledge alone is not enough. Pilots must have strong English communication skills, quick decision-making ability and the capacity to stay calm under pressure. They must also be medically fit, as flying requires constant alertness and handling unexpected situations.Pilot training requires passing key subjects such as aviation regulations, meteorology, navigation, aircraft systems and radio telephony. Students must then complete three licence stages — Student Pilot Licence (SPL), Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and finally Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).Experts advise regular study, simulator practice and choosing a reputed flying school. Pilot training can be expensive and demanding, requiring patience and financial planning. But with dedication and proper preparation, you can turn your dream of flying into reality.
