The Academic Council of Delhi University, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, recently convened a pivotal meeting where essential decisions were made. The focus was on improving teaching quality and promoting permanent appointments. Prof. Singh highlighted the necessity for the university and its affiliated colleges to expedite the recruitment process for permanent positions on a regular basis, rather than relying on temporary faculty such as guest and ad hoc faculty. He also proposed the addition of nine new medical postgraduate courses.

This initiative aims to provide stability to the faculty and enhance the quality of teaching and research. The council approved several agendas related to medical education, research, and faculty development. In addition to expanding medical courses, new guidelines were established to standardise the coursework patterns for PhD researchers. The rules for travel grants for faculty members to present papers at national and international conferences have also been tightened.

During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh reiterated his priorities regarding the issue of guest and ad hoc faculty, instructing colleges to recruit regularly for permanent positions and conduct at least two academic appointments annually. Colleges requiring infrastructure were advised to apply for funding from HEFA (Higher Education Financing Agency) immediately. All colleges were also directed to hire sports coaches to improve sports facilities.
