NEW DELHI: A massive fire at a highrise in Dwarka Sector 13 on Monday morning claimed the lives of a man and his two young children, who jumped from their eighth-floor flat in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Yash Yadav, who was in the flex board business, his 10-year-old son, and young daughter. Yadav, along with his two children, jumped from the balcony of their home in Shabd Society as the fire intensified. All three were taken to IGI Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.Yadav’s wife and elder son survived the incident. They managed to escape the blaze and are currently undergoing treatment.The fire broke out around 9.58am between the eighth and ninth floors of the building. Delhi Fire Services (DFS) deployed 13 fire tenders and 88 firefighters to control the blaze and carry out evacuation.While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities confirmed that all other residents were evacuated. As a safety measure, power supply and piped natural gas (PNG) connections to the building were cut off.The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been informed to assess the structural integrity of the building post-fire. Support teams have also been deployed at Aakash and IGI hospitals to assist the bereaved and injured family members.
