Chilli Powder: It adds spiciness, colour and flavour to the dish.

Lemon juice: It gives a fresh and tangy taste . Lemon helps to remove strong fishy smell.

Salt: This enhances the overall taste of the dish

Breadcrumbs: It is used to coat the fish. It gives a crispy and crunchy Outer layer when fried.

Corn starch: It is mixed with water to make a thin batter that helps the breadcrumbs stick well. It adds light crispness.

Oil: This is used for deep frying the fish fingers until they turn golden and crispy.

Extra Hacks

  • Choose firm and boneless fish. It holds shape while frying.
  • Pat fish dry before marinating. This helps the spices stick better and prevents extra moisture during coating.
  • Dip the fish twice in the cornflour and breadcrumbs if you like a thicker and crispier crust.
  • Fry the fish in medium to hot oil. Too hot oil will brown the outside too fast. Medium heat ensures even cooking.

Expert tips

  • Use fresh and firm fish for best taste. It gives a better texture and flavour compared to frozen ones.
  • Let the marinated fish sit in the fridge. Chilling the marinated fish helps the flavours absorb better and keeps the dish firm
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan. Fry in small batches so the oil temparature doesn’t drop. It ensures even cooking and crispiness.
  • Press breadcrumbs gently into the fish. This helps the coating stick firmly and stay on during frying.
  • Cut fish evenly. Uniform sizes ensure that all pieces cook at the same time and give a neat presentation.
  • Serve immediately after frying. Fish fingers taste best when hot and crispy. So avoid letting them sit too long.
