Three-time reigning champion Iga Swiatek, Jasmine Paolini, and Aryna Sabalenka all picked up wins on Friday at the Roland Garros to move into the subsequent rounds of the 2025 edition of the French Open.
Swiatek got the better of Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, as the Pole posted a 6-2, 7-5 triumph in nearly two hours on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
“Before it was 20 degrees when I played my first match but today it was 30 degrees. It is not easy to adjust but I have played in every condition,” said Swiatek.
“She went for it every time I gave her a chance,” Swiatek continued.
“I’m just happy that I was super solid and didn’t give any free points but she used her chances,” the Pole added.
The 23-year-old Swiatek is slated to face the winner of the match between Elena Rybakina and Jelena Ostapenko in her upcoming fixture.
Paolini breezed into the Ro16 as she cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva, while 27-year-old Belarusian Sabalenka also coasted to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Serbian southpaw Olga Danilovic at the Court Philippe-Chatrier to advace to the fourth round of the clay-court major. Sabalenka is in line to take on Amanda Anisimova of the USA as the American registered a 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 win over Dane Clara Tauson.
Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng brought Canadian teen Victoria Mboko’s run at the Roland Garros to a end with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Chinese star.

Italain Lorenzo Musetti rallied past Argentine Mariano Navone to clinch a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 win in a match that lasted three hours and 25 minutes.
“I’ve grown up a lot. A match like this I don’t know if I would have come back a few years ago,” Musetti said following his triumph.
“The heat was pretty tough to manage. But happy to find a way to turn around the match,” he added.
