In the heart of Pune, a group of 25 talented students from rural zilla parishad schools is preparing for the adventure of a lifetime—a study tour to NASA’s headquarters in the USA. This groundbreaking opportunity aims to ignite scientific curiosity and open global doors for kids who might otherwise dream big from afar. The excitement kicked off with an intimate “Coffee with CEO – Young Minds, Big Dreams” session at the iconic Council Hall. Led by divisional commissioner Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar and Pune zilla parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, the event brought these young achievers face-to-face with mentors who shared life lessons over casual chats.
The students, bubbling with enthusiasm, opened up about their ambitions—from unravelling space mysteries to innovating for India’s future.
Dr Pulkundwar, reflecting on his own path, urged the group to chase goals with grit and vision. “Success isn’t handed to you,” he said, emphasising resilience as the key to turning aspirations into reality. His words resonated deeply, reminding everyone that rural roots don’t limit cosmic reach.
Pune Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, the driving force behind the initiative, highlighted how this goes beyond a simple trip. “Education isn’t confined to books,” he explained. “We’re bridging worlds—taking rural talent to global stages. These students aren’t just visitors; they’re ambassadors for countless others, proving that dreams know no boundaries.” He expressed confidence that the experience will mould them into tomorrow’s scientists and leaders, contributing to India’s innovation story.
This NASA visit is part of Pune Zilla Parishad’s push to revolutionise rural education. By exposing students to cutting-edge space tech and real-world experts, the program builds self-belief and broadens perspectives. It’s a testament to the district’s dedication: ensuring every child, regardless of background, gets a shot at the stars.
The selection process has been carried out in a highly transparent manner, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all. Special care has been taken to provide representation to students from every taluka, so that the process remains inclusive and participatory. To maintain credibility and authenticity, the entire procedure has been conducted through IIUCA, an internationally renowned and reputed third-party organisation. This collaboration has further enhanced the trustworthiness of the selection, ensuring that no bias or partiality influences the outcome. The initiative truly reflects the commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and global standards of excellence in student representation. According to the authorities, the process to obtain the visa for these students has commenced. Authorities will chalk out details of their travel plan once this process is completed.
For these kids, the journey symbolises hope. Vedika Gujar, a student who got selected for this programme, shared, “I never thought I’d see NASA up close—now, I feel like anything’s possible.” As they pack their bags, the ripple effect is clear: inspiring peers back home to aim higher.
Pune’s administration is setting a model for inclusive growth, showing that investing in young minds yields infinite returns. With departure looming, the city watches proudly as these rural stars prepare to shine on an international stage.
