UPSC Sucess Story: Priya Rani appeared for the exam four times and was successful twice. In 2023, in her fourth attempt, she became an IAS officer with 69th rank.

At an age when children are busy playing and having fun, Priya Rani was fighting against the entire village for her dreams. Education is a basic right of every child, but some children have to struggle even for it. Something similar happened with Priya Rani, a resident of Bihar. Despite being intelligent in her studies, the people around her tried to keep her away from education. She is currently the Assistant Collector at East Champaran, Bihar Govt. Priya Rani hails from Kurkuri village in Phulwari Sharif, Bihar. Her father, Abhay Kumar, is a farmer. The villagers opposed her education since she was a child. However, her grandfather recognised her dreams and potential. Priya Rani’s story is an inspiration to millions of young people facing struggles in their lives. It was difficult for Priya Rani to study in the village. Therefore, her grandfather Surendra Prasad Sharma and father shifted her to Patna. She completed her primary education at Don Bosco School followed by St. Michael’s School where she completed class 12. In 2018, she completed her B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from BIT Mesra. After earning her B.Tech degree, Priya Rani landed a good-paying job at a Bengaluru company. However, she wanted to join the civil service. Therefore, she decided to quit her job and prepare for the UPSC exam. At the time, her family was unhappy with her decision. However, her hard work paid off. In 2021, she secured the 284th rank in her second attempt at the UPSC Civil Services exam, earning her selection for the Indian Defence Service. (Instagram/priya_rani1616)

Even after getting a government job, she wasn’t satisfied. She wanted to become an IAS officer. With her father’s support and motivation, she succeeded in her fourth attempt. IAS officer Priya Rani attributes her success to discipline and hard work. To become an IAS officer, she would wake up every morning at 4 am to study. She focused specifically on Economics.
