The sales numbers for the top-six manufacturers in India for the first month of FY2026 are out. Here’s how each manufacturer performed.
Honda: 4,22,931 units
Honda topped the sales chart in the first month of FY2026. Recently, as part of its ongoing efforts to meet stricter OBD2B emission norms, Honda has steadily updated its entire line-up. The company reported a 5.36 percent increase in sales compared to the previous month, and a 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
TVS: 3,23,647 units
Due to Hero’s lower sales this month, TVS has moved up a spot. TVS also reported a positive 8.74 percent increase compared to the previous month, while its year-on-year (YoY) growth stands at a marginal 1.26 percent. FY2025 was a strong year for TVS, with the company reporting that its Apache range of bikes cumulatively crossed the 4 lakh units sales mark. It’s worth noting that these sales figures do not include the iQube electric scooter lineup, which is among the bestselling e-scooter models in the country.
Hero: 2,88,254 units
Hero has reported lower sales than both Honda and TVS. This has been a major factor in the other two brands moving up from their usual positions. The company stated that, as part of its planned operational strategy, it implemented a temporary production halt from April 17 to 19 at its Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar, and Neemrana facilities to align the supply chain and conduct scheduled maintenance. These lower sales figures resulted in a decline of over 43 percent compared to the previous month, and a similar 43.7 percent year-on-year. The company also quoted a vehicle registration number of 5.05 lakh units as per VAHAN data for the same period.
Bajaj: 1,88,615 units
Bajaj reported a 2.69 percent increase in sales compared to the previous month, and a steady 13 percent rise year-on-year. The company also recently updated the Pulsar NS400Z with a wider 150-section tyre and improved brakes. It’s worth noting that these sales figures do not include the Chetak EV range, which ranks just below the TVS iQube as the second best-selling electric scooter in the country.
Suzuki: 95,214 units
Suzuki reported a negative 9.95 percent in dispatches compared to the previous month. On the bright side, Suzuki reported a YoY increase of 8.11 percent. The brand recently gave its best seller– the Access, a major overhaul and is also working on updating the Burgman. In FY2025, it even recorded the best ever sales of the Hayabusa in India.
Royal Enfield: 76,002 units
Royal Enfield has reported a negative 13.6 percent in sales as compared to the previous year. Although its YoY growth stood at a marginal 1.2 percent. Recently, Royal Enfield gave the Hunter 350 a much needed update and was majorly focused at addressing the suspension comfort issues among other things. Royal Enfield also gave it an LED headlight with a price increment of Rs 7,000 for the top two models while the base version costs the same Rs 1.5 lakh ex-showroom.
