UPSC Success Story: IPS Uday Krishna Reddy has faced numerous hardships and challenges since childhood. Born in Ullapalem village in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, he lost his biggest support system at a very young age. During this challenging period, Uday Krishna Reddy’s grandmother, Ramanamma, became his strongest support. She raised her two grandsons by selling vegetables. Although she believed that a 10th-grade education was sufficient, she never let Reddy’s desire to study wane and fully supported him despite her limited income. Despite financial difficulties, Reddy pursued his education, completing 12th grade from a government school and a vocational course in Medical Lab Technician (MLT).(Instagram/@udaykrishnareddy.ips)

Uday Krishna Reddy aspired to become a doctor, but financial limitations hindered his dream. To improve his family’s situation and alleviate his grandmother’s burden, he joined the Andhra Pradesh Police as a constable in 2013. He served diligently for five years, but in 2018, his life took an unexpected turn. His senior officer, a Circle Inspector, humiliated him in front of approximately 60 fellow police officers. This public humiliation profoundly affected Reddy. At that moment, he decided to prove himself instead of seeking revenge. He immediately resigned from his position as a police constable and resolved to return only after passing the Civil Services exam and becoming an officer. This humiliation ignited a determination within him, driving him from a police constable to an IPS officer.(Instagram/@udaykrishnareddy.ips)

Uday Krishna Reddy earned his living by selling newspapers and used this income to pay his college fees. After resigning from his job as a constable, he dedicated himself entirely to UPSC preparation. He transitioned from Telugu medium to English medium and concentrated on NCERT textbooks. Uday Krishna Reddy achieved the 780th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023, marking his first significant success. Although this could have qualified him for a position as an IRS officer, his ultimate goal was to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). Therefore, he continued his preparation and excelled in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, securing the 350th rank. This accomplishment enabled him to be selected for the IPS, and he is now an officer of the Tripura cadre.(Instagram/@udaykrishnareddy.ips)
