Ahead of the upcoming edition of the revamped 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino opened on the possibility of the unique transfer window the governing body has introduced to facilitate changes for the sides’ participating in the prestigious event.

Infantino appeared on American streamer IShowSpeed’s podcast and opened up on a variety of topics, which also included the outside possibility of Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo being a part of the spectacle. Ronaldo currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, who did not make the cut for the inter-continental contest slated to get underway on the 15th of June, but the special window FIFA has opened up for the participating clubs might witness Ronaldo being picked up by one of the sides lined up to appear at the tournament.

“Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Club World Cup,” Infantino said

“There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup, who knows,” he left the possibility an open ended one.

“Still a few weeks time, will be fun,” the 55-year-old said.

FIFA approved exceptional rules in October to facilitate transfers from June 1-10 and again from June 27 to July 3.

“The objective is to encourage clubs and players whose contracts are expiring to find an appropriate solution to facilitate the players’ participation,” FIFA said in a statement.

The tournament is set to feature 32 sides from across the globe, divided into eight groups of four in a league-cum-knockout tournament to crown the best football club on the planet.
