The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur has allegedly asked its students, who have not yet secured placements, to withdraw from the process. Siddharth Gopi, Co-founder of TopHire.co, shared on the microblogging site X that the institute has pressured students to “opt-out” to improve their placement statistics. According to him, students are being asked to exclude themselves from the placement process so that the institute can claim 100 per cent placement. The institute has instructed the students to complete an opt-out form “to maintain accurate records,” he stated.
“IIM kashipur asks unplaced students to “opt out” of placement. This is so that they can maintain accurate records,” posted Gopi. He said a screenshot of an email stating the closure of the current placement process and directing unplaced students to complete the opt-out form.
“As we approach the closure of our current placement cycle, we want all the unplaced students to formally opt out by completing and submitting the attached Opt-Out form,” reads the screenshot of the email.
It further added that the even though the official placement cycle is about to end, the IIM will continue to share relevant job opportunities with students as they arise. “However, to facilitate the closure process and maintain accurate records, it is mandatory fill out the opt out form. Also, if you are part of any ongoing placement process, be assured that those processes will continue as they are,” it added.

Several users expressed disappointment and mocked the institute’s decision. “100% placement guarantee is a guarantee sir, can’t be violated at any cost,” commented on user.
“In this country, when the numbers don’t work in your favor, just change the numbers. All this is the learning from the top leader,” said another.
While one user said, “All IIM placement reports are false and fabricated..”
According to a recent RTI data shared by Ravi Handa, there were a total of 384 students in the year 2024 batch of IIM Trichy. Out of these, 59 students or 15 per cent of the students did not get any placement offer. Apart from this, only 104 students have received an annual package of more than 20 lakhs.
