IIT Bombay’s Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) has introduced a significant change to its MBA programme starting with the 2025-27 batch. Previously, only students with a four-year degree (mainly in engineering) or a master’s degree were eligible. Now, students with a three-year bachelor’s degree in any field, such as arts, commerce, or science, can apply.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Bombay MBA 2025-27 (Indian Candidates):

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with at least 60 per cent marks for general category candidate and 55 per cent for SC, ST, and PWD candidates or a minimum CPI of 6.5 for general category candidates or 6 for SC, ST, PWD candidates) out of 10, from institutions/universities recognised by UGC or the Ministry of Education, Government of India, AICTE, AIU, or a reputed foreign university.

Final-year students and those awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they have secured an aggregate of 60 per cent marks (55 per cent for SC, ST, PWD candidates) or equivalent in their most recent exams. Admission will be contingent on meeting the eligibility criteria.

Additionally, candidates must have a valid CAT score.

IIT Bombay MBA 2025-27 Selection Process

According to the official notice, the selection process for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme for the 2025-27 batch will be conducted in two phases:

— In the first phase, candidates who meet the eligibility criteria [A] will be shortlisted for a Personal Interview (PI) based on their CAT 2024 scores, academic records, work experience duration, and other factors.

— In the second phase, the final selection will be based on a composite score that includes the CAT 2024 score, academic performance, work experience, and personal interview scores.

Meanwhile, last month, IIT Bombay suspended all partnerships with Turkish universities in response to Turkey’s support for Pakistan during a period of heightened tensions with India. “Due to the current geopolitical situation involving Turkey, IIT Bombay is processing suspension of its agreements with Turkish universities until further notice,” it said.
