The IIT Delhi report states that over 2,500 founders and co-founders have emerged from the institute while over 50 alumni serve as faculty in QS top 100 universities.

On its 68th Foundation Day, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi launched its inaugural ‘Alumni Impact Report’, detailing the achievements of more than 65,000 alumni since the institute’s inception.
The report reveals that around 10,000 IIT Delhi alumni currently hold leadership roles in Banking & Finance, Manufacturing, and the Engineering sector, with 70% based in India. Additionally, over 1,000 alumni serve on the boards of major and diverse corporate entities.
The report also notes that over 2,500 founders and co-founders have emerged from the institute. IIT Delhi alumni have been instrumental in creating some of the most recognisable brands in the modern digital economy, generating 4.8 lakh direct jobs, the institute stated in an official press release.
Notable alumni include:
Deepinder Goyal, founder of Eternal, encompassing platforms Zomato and Blinkit.
Harsh Jain, Co-founder and COO of Groww.
Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, founders of Meesho.
Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, founders of Flipkart.
Ashutosh Garg, founder of Eightfold.ai and Bloomreach.
Jyoti Bansal, founder of AppDynamics.
Rishbh Goel, leading digital debt recovery with Credgenics.
The report further stated industry leaders and venture capitalists shaping the global technology landscape, such as Vinod Khosla (Co-founder, Sun Microsystems), Navin Chaddha (Managing Director, Mayfield Fund), and Pavan Jain (Founder, Samsara).
It highlights that over 650 alumni work in public institutions, with significant representation in civil services:
– 270+ IAS officers.
– 100+ IPS, IRS, and IFS officers.
– 250+ leaders in India’s PSUs, regulatory bodies, and scientific missions.
In academia, IIT Delhi’s graduates have excelled, with placements in prestigious universities worldwide. Over 50 alumni serve as faculty in QS Top 100 Universities, and more than 300 alumni hold faculty positions in other IITs, continuing the legacy of excellence.
The report also highlights the success of the IIT Delhi Endowment Fund, built through alumni generosity. This fund enables the Institute to independently invest in research and infrastructure, having received Rs 477 crore in pledges, with Rs 338 crore already realised.
In a significant gesture, the IIT Delhi Class of 2000 has pledged over Rs 70 Crore for their Silver Jubilee Reunion in December 2025. These contributions support key initiatives, including: 75+ Academic Chairs and 115+ Awards for excellence; 137+ Scholarships and International Travel Grants for deserving students; as well as development of facilities such as the Mittal Sports Complex, the Yardi School of AI, and the CERCA centre for climate research.
Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, stated that the report demonstrates how, over the past 65+ years, IIT Delhi graduates have evolved into global leaders, innovative entrepreneurs, and dedicated public servants, making significant economic and social contributions worldwide. “From 150 alumni in 1966 to 65,000 today, our graduates remain the heartbeat of India’s technological and social progress,” said Prof. Banerjee.
