The Indian Army’s Agniveer recruitment for 2026 is underway. A significant change has been made this year in the eligibility criteria. A relaxation has been made in the maximum age limit. Candidates up to 22 years old are now eligible to apply, which is a slight increase compared to the previous limit of 21 years.
Applications opened in the Varanasi region on February 13, 2026, and by February 25, there was substantial interest from the youth of Uttar Pradesh. To boost participation, awareness campaigns are being conducted in each district, with district magistrates asked to promote the campaign locally. Notices and information are being circulated in schools to encourage applications. This year, the age relaxation and awareness campaigns have led to a surge in applications in Uttar Pradesh, with Ghazipur leading.
New Age Limit
The age limits for various positions are:
– Agniveer GD, Technical, Clerk Storekeeper, and Tradesman: 17.5 to 22 years (born between July 1, 2005, and July 1, 2009).
– Soldier Technical (AN/AM Vet): 17.5 to 23 years (born between July 1, 2004, and July 1, 2009).
– Sepoy Pharma: 19 to 25 years (born between July 1, 2002, and July 1, 2008).
Educational Qualifications
– Agniveer General Duty (GD): 10th pass with at least 45% marks, minimum 33% in each subject, driving licence preferred for drivers.
– Agniveer Technical: 12th pass with Physics, Maths, and English, achieving 50% aggregate marks.
– Agniveer Clerk/Storekeeper Technical: 12th pass in any stream with 60% marks, minimum 50% in each subject, and at least 50% in English and Maths/Accounts/Bookkeeping; type test mandatory.
– Agniveer Tradesman-10th Pass: 10th pass with 33% marks in all subjects.
– Agniveer Tradesman – 8th Pass: 8th pass with 33% marks in all subjects.
Candidates with 8th or 10th pass qualifications can select multiple trades, with 10th pass qualifications allowing up to 9 trades, and 8th pass qualifications allowing a maximum of 2 trades but not for 10th pass positions.
Physical test details for Group 1:
– 1.6 km run: 5.5 minutes for men (60 marks).
– 10 pull-ups (40 marks), including sit-ups and squats.
Height requirements:
– Agniveer GD, Technical, Tradesman (8th/10th): Minimum 170 cm, chest 77 cm (82 cm with 5 cm expansion).
– Clerk/Storekeeper Technical: Height 162 cm, chest 77 cm (82 cm with 5 cm expansion).
Candidates awaiting results for 8th, 10th, 12th, NIOS, or ITI can also apply. They must present their original marksheet in Phase 2 (physical/medical) if qualified.
