The Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens concluded on Sunday at the Rajgir International Sports Complex with Hong Kong winning the men’s title, China clinching the women’s crown, and India’s women securing a historic bronze on home soil.
In one of the day’s hardest-fought contests, India’s U20 women, led by captain Bhumika Shukla, battled past Uzbekistan 12–5 to claim third place in the championship. Playing in front of a vocal home crowd, the Young Tigresses combined determined defence with opportunistic attacking bursts to hold off their resilient opponents.
India’s tries came at crucial moments, each greeted by loud cheers from the stands. Shukla’s leadership in the breakdown and defensive organisation proved vital, as the hosts kept their composure under pressure to secure the bronze medal — a result that marks another step forward for the women’s game in India.
Hong Kong and China claim top honours
In the men’s final, Hong Kong overpowered favourites Sri Lanka 33–0 in a one-sided display of attacking rugby. Hong Kong’s relentless pace and accuracy at the breakdown left Sri Lanka chasing shadows.
The women’s final saw China outclass Hong Kong 31–14, with their quick interplay and strong finishing proving decisive.
In the men’s third-place match, Malaysia beat China, while India’s men secured fifth place by defeating Kazakhstan.
