Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal signed a new contract with the Catalan giants on Tuesday, extending his stay until 2031 following an outstanding season.

The 17-year-old winger has already become a crucial player for the club, contributing significantly to their domestic treble wins in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

“Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have agreed to extend his contract until June 30, 2031,” the club announced in a statement.

“Yamal’s renewal underscores the strength of Barca’s project. His remarkable entry into the world football scene began with his debut on April 29, 2023, at just 15 years old.”

Spanish media reported that the new deal places him among Barcelona’s highest-paid players.

After a successful Euro 2024 with Spain last summer, Yamal tallied 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 matches across all competitions during a fantastic season.

Playing on the right flank and known for his exceptional dribbling, Yamal’s skill and speed were pivotal in Barcelona scoring 102 league goals this season, reclaiming the title from rivals Real Madrid.

Emerging from the renowned La Masia youth academy and often compared to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, Yamal made his debut under coach Xavi Hernandez at 15 in 2023.

By the end of the 2023-24 season, he had become the team’s primary attacking threat, standing out in a disappointing campaign where Barca won no trophies.

Following his Euro exploits, Yamal perfectly fit Flick’s attacking style and demonstrated more consistency, proving himself as one of the world’s best players.

He delivered two outstanding Champions League semi-final performances against Inter Milan, but his team narrowly lost 7-6 on aggregate and must wait to end their European trophy drought.

“I will keep my promise and bring the Champions League trophy to Barcelona. We will not stop until we get it,” Yamal vowed after the match.

Despite his young age, the winger has already played over 100 times for Barcelona.

Yamal, who turns 18 in July, joins teammate Raphinha and coach Flick in signing contract extensions recently.
