All government and private schools in Lucknow from Classes 1 to 12 will remain closed on 14 August due to heavy rain and bad weather, District Magistrate Visakh G Iyer announced.

Lucknow schools shut today due to heavy rain and bad weather, IMD forecasts more showers.
All government and private schools in Lucknow, from Classes 1 to 12, will remain closed on Thursday, 14 August, following heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, including the state capital. The announcement was made by District Magistrate Visakh G Iyer.
The administration said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students, as persistent downpours have led to severe waterlogging in many areas and disrupted transport services across the city.
“In view of bad weather and rain conditions in parts of the state, all government and non-government schools from classes 1 to 12 will remain closed in Lucknow today,” said Lucknow DM Visakh G Iyer.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate to intense rainfall is expected early Thursday across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh. Light to moderate showers are forecast for most areas, with isolated pockets in Delhi and the National Capital Region likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
A red alert has been issued for parts of Telangana, including Vikarabad and Sangareddy, where extremely heavy rain is anticipated. An orange alert is in place for certain regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
In Uttar Pradesh, the IMD said on Wednesday that monsoon activity is expected to intensify over the next 48 hours due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
“The system has caused the eastern end of the monsoon trough to shift southwards, likely bringing widespread light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers, to most parts of the state,” the IMD stated.
