Day 1 of Chaitra Navratri begins with worshipping Goddess Shailputri and wearing the colour orange; it is believed that wearing specific colours associated with the day brings good luck. Maa Shailputri is also referred to as Hemavati, with her name is derived from two Sanskrit words: Shail, meaning “mountain”, and Putri, meaning “daughter”.

One can see Maa Shailputri riding a bull named Nandi and is depicted holding a trident (trishul) in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand, when in divine form. To receive her blessings on this day, devotees can recite the mantra “Om Devi Shailaputryai Namah.”
The first day of Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana), and according to Drik Panchang, the muhurat for Ghatasthapana occurs during the Pratipada tithi, which begins on March 29, 2025, at 04:27 PM and concludes on March 30, 2025, at 12:49 PM, according to Drik Panchang.
The Ghatasthapana Muhurta starts at 06:13 AM and ends at 10:22 AM, lasting for 4 hours and 8 minutes, while the Abhijit Muhurta for Ghatasthapana starts at 12:01 PM and goes on till 12:50 PM, with a duration of 50 minutes
It’s important to note that while the Pratipada tithi starts on March 29, the festival officially begins on March 30, as Navratri commences on the Udaya Tithi (rising date). Devotees perform rituals with dedication to obtain Maa Shailputri’s blessings for inner calm, spiritual progress, and overcoming life’s challenges.
Navratri is a time for introspection, unity, and dedication. It provides an opportunity to connect with spiritual energy and enhance one’s faith while honouring the power and grace of Goddess Durga’s incarnations.
