Govind Kumar, a resident of Kankar Wali Kuiya in the Atal Bandh area of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, has been selling pakodas from a cart on the road for 25 years to support his family of seven. As the sole breadwinner, he ensured his five children received a good education despite living in a small room. Even after his daughter, Deepesh Kumari, became an IAS officer, he continued his pakoda business.
In 2021, after passing the UPSC Civil Service Exam, Deepesh Kumari became a role model for her younger siblings, inspiring them to pursue ambitious careers. She became an IAS officer, one sister became a doctor, and two other siblings are studying MBBS. While her younger sister became a doctor at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, two of her brothers are studying MBBS — one from Latur and another from AIIMS Guwahati. This family has demonstrated that strong determination can overcome any obstacles.
Deepesh Kumari, the eldest of five siblings, excelled academically from a young age. She attended Shishu Adarsh Vidya Mandir, scoring 98 per cent in the 10th grade and 89 per cent in the 12th grade. She then completed a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur, and an M.Tech from IIT Bombay. After working for a year in a private company, she resigned to prepare for the UPSC exam.

Although Deepesh failed her first UPSC attempt in 2020, she persevered with even more dedication. Using her savings from her job, she prepared for the UPSC Civil Service Examination in Delhi. Her hard work paid off when she secured an All India 93rd rank in her second attempt in 2021, leading to her selection as an IAS officer. She also secured rank 4 in the EWS category.
After completing her IAS training, Deepesh Kumari was allotted the Jharkhand cadre. She is currently posted as an Assistant Secretary in the Road Transport and Highways Department.
