Mercedes AMG GT and GT Pro: 5 things to watch out for

The new-gen GT will slot in as Mercedes-AMG’s flagship model in India.

Mercedes-Benz is set to bolster its performance-focused line-up in India with the imminent launch of the new-gen AMG GT sports car. The latest and greatest from the AMG division will serve as its flagship model, and will be available in two guises: GT 63 4Matic+ and GT 63 Pro 4Matic+. Ahead of the new AMG GT’s launch in India, let’s go over five notable aspects of the performance coupe.

Mercedes AMG GT and GT Pro: 5 things to watch out for

The new Mercedes-AMG GT and GT Pro will launch in India on Friday, June 27, 2025, with pricing for both expected to land north of Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). Once they go on sale, Mercedes-AMG’s India line-up will expand to nine models. Notably, the limited-run AMG G63 Collector’s Edition launched earlier this month, with the AMG CLE 53 slated to go on sale in India later in 2025.

New Mercedes-AMG GT engine and performance specs

Twin-turbo V8 outputs up to 612hp, 850Nm

Much like its progenitor, the new AMG GT is powered by Mercedes-Benz’s ubiquitous 4.0-litre twin-turbo ‘hot vee’ V8. In GT 63 guise, this powerplant develops 585hp and 800Nm – up 100Nm over the track-focused prior-gen AMG GT R. For the GT 63 Pro, engine output is bumped up to 612hp and 850Nm.

0-100kph in 3.2 seconds

Both AMG GT variants come equipped with a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends the V8’s grunt to all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. This enables a claimed 0-100kph time of 3.2 seconds, 0-200kph time of 11.4 seconds, and 315kph top speed for the GT 63. The Pro, meanwhile, manages the same 0-100kph time, but completes the 0-200kph dash in 10.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 317kph.

New Mercedes-AMG GT 63 and GT 63 Pro differences

GT 63 Pro is faster, looks sportier, and gets aerodynamic buffs

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro

As the suffix after its name suggests, the AMG GT 63 Pro is a more hardcore iteration of the standard GT 63. In addition to the 27hp and 50Nm increase in powertrain output, 0.5sec faster 0-200kph time, and 2kph higher top speed, the AMG GT 63 Pro comes with improved engine cooling, larger brakes, lighter wheels, grippier tyres, and a sportier body kit comprising a revised front bumper, front splitter, trim strips on the side sills, rear diffuser, and a carbonfibre wing. Compared to the GT 63, the Pro’s bodywork enhancements are claimed to reduce front lift by 30kg and increase downforce at the rear by 15kg.

New Mercedes-AMG GT features

Bigger and more spacious inside

The new AMG GT ventures much further into grand-tourer territory than its predecessor. Not only is the new AMG GT larger than the first-gen model in every way – thereby allowing for a more spacious interior and cargo space – it also offers a 2+2 seating layout instead of being a strict 2-seater.

There’s a long list of creature comforts too, including an 11.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, Nappa leather upholstery, wireless charger, Burmester surround sound system, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and more.

New Mercedes-AMG GT rivals

Closest competitor is the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS

When it launches in India, the new AMG GT’s closest rival will be the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS, which is currently priced at Rs 2.84 crore (ex-showroom). While the AMG GT’s twin-turbo V8 has the power advantage over the Porsche’s 541hp, flat-6 strong-hybrid powertrain, the Mercedes coupe will likely be priced substantially higher.
