MG M9 India Spec Range, Features And Colours Revealed


Ahead of the all-electric M9’s launch, JSW-MG Motor India has officially revealed its detailed specifications, including battery size, range and features. M9 bookings have been open since May for a token of Rs 51,000 via MG Select, the brand’s premium retail network. The first MPV in India from MG is expected to cost about Rs 65 lakh, ex-showroom.

MG has fitted a 90kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery under the floor of the M9. Compared to lithium-iron phosphate batteries, those using NMC cell chemistry offer higher energy density. This unit powers a 245hp, 350Nm motor mounted on the front axle. As per the brand’s internal testing, the M9 has a range of 548km on a single charge.

The M9 takes 90 minutes to charge with a 160kW DC fast charger. With an 11kW AC charger, which can be installed at home or office, a 0-100 percent charge takes about 10 hours. Being an MG EV, the M9 will also benefit from the carmaker’s network of public fast charging stations, which can be located on the eHUB app.

A combination of leather and suede finished in cognac brown has been used for the interior of the M9. Digital appointments at the front comprise a 12.23-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch driver’s display serving respective entertainment and instrumentation duties. The former display will be compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto smartphone connectivity and will be wired to a JBL sound system. Other highlights here are electrically adjustable, heated, ventilated and massage-enabled driver and passenger seats, a wireless charger, a single-pane sunroof, drive modes, digital IRVM and PM 2.5 air filter.

Coming to the most important second row, the captain chairs (Presidential seats in MG speak) also offer massaging, ventilation and heating functions, but they add fold-out ottomans for extra comfort. Notably, all of the above-mentioned features can be easily accessed by touchscreens on the headrests of each seat. The kerb-side front passenger seat can be moved forward to open up more room at the back with the boss mode. For those being chauffeured here, MG has installed a panoramic sunroof, ambient lights and manual window shades. As for the rear entertainment screens, they are likely going to be optional extras.

Lastly, the third row can seat three passengers, and comes with AC vents and USB-A connectivity. The M9 is also compatible with Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) charging. Boot space is up to 945 litres; there’s a 55-litre frunk too.

Level 2 ADAS, 7 airbags, 360-degree camera, ESP, EPB, TPMS, all-four disc brakes, ISOFIX child seat anchors and emergency brake assist are part of the MG electric vehicle’s safety suite. While the car brand has not disclosed the BNCAP safety rating for the M9 as of yet, it is backed by full five-star ratings in both Euro and Australasian crash tests.

The MG M9 stretches the tape at 5,200mm long, 2,000mm wide and 1,800mm tall, with a 3,200mm wheelbase, outsizing MPVs like the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire. Up front, it gets a trapezoidal grille flanked by LED headlights. Above these sit connected DRLs, completing the split light arrangement. The M9 rides on 19-inch alloy wheels wearing self-healing Continental Contiseal tyres. Notably, the rear doors are electrically assisted and slide open. Its rear section is marked by an electrically operated tailgate, connected tail lights, a roof spoiler with an integrated stop lamp and a wiper.
