The Supreme Court is set to hear petitions concerning the NEET PG 2025 counselling process on September 23, having rescheduled the hearing from September 19. The court has placed this matter at the top of its agenda. “List on 23-09-2025 on top of the board,” Justices JB Pardiwala and KV Viswanathan stated on Friday.

Following a Supreme Court directive, the NBEMS released the NEET PG answer key for the first time. However, candidates have criticised its format, as it only included “question IDs” instead of the full questions. Petitions from NEET PG candidates and the United Doctors Front (UDF) highlight concerns about transparency in the examination process. The matter was initially scheduled for September 12 but later postponed.

According to candidates, releasing only “question IDs” limits proper verification of their answers and raises doubts about the evaluation process. They have requested the court to instruct NBEMS to adopt a more transparent system. Students argue that the limited disclosure is “opaque, unintelligible, and incapable of meaningful verification.”

They contend that the system infringes upon their right to a fair admission process under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. A petition states that it undermines the very purpose of publishing answer keys, which is to enable candidates to cross-check their answers and raise objections.

The legal proceedings have also paused the NEET PG 2025 counselling process for the All India Quota counselling, which covers 50% of seats in MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses. However, some states like Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu have begun their state quota counselling registration.

The NEET PG exam is conducted for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses in medical colleges. The NEET PG 2025 results were issued on August 29. To participate in the counselling, candidates must register and select their preferred college and course, once the process begins. Afterwards, the seat allotment process will take place, and candidates will need to report to the college with their allotment letter.
