Brazilian football superstar Neymar broke down into tears after suffering the worst defeat of his career. In the ongoing Brazilian Serie A, Neymar’s Santos were thrashed 0-6 by Vasco Da Gama on Sunday with former Liverpool forward Phil Coutinho scoring a brace.
Soon after the defeat, Santos sacked their coach Cléber Xavier.
Lucas Piton scored the opening goal of the night before Coutinho struck twice in the second half to make it 3-0. David Correa De Fonseca, Rayan and Danilo Neves then rounded off a stunning Vasco Da Gama’s performance which has lifted them from the relegation zone.
After the drubbing, the forward said he was ashamed with the disappointing performance and sympathised with the fans’ reactions.
“I’m ashamed. I’m totally disappointed with our performance. The fans have every right to protest, obviously without using violence … But if they want to curse and insult, they’re in their right,” Neymar said post match.
“It’s a feeling of extreme shame. I’ve never experienced this in my life. Unfortunately, it happened. The tears were from anger, from everything. Unfortunately, I can’t help in every way. Anyway, it was total s—, that’s the reality,” he added.
Neymar Consoled, Fans Protest
Neymar was consoled by the support staff and Vasco Da Gama head coach Fernando Diniz before the former Barcelona star made his slow walk off the field. The fans registered their protest by turning their backs to the pitch.
Neymar Out Of Next Fixture
During the contest, Neymar was booked and since it was his third yellow card of the season, he will miss Santos’ next contest against Bahia.
The defeat has left Santos just two points clear of the relegation zone.
