Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian men’s hockey team, who on Sunday, September 7, thrashed South Korea 4-1 to win the Asia Cup and qualify for the FIH World Cup 2026, which will be played in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Dilpreet Singh scored a brace as India produced a clinical performance to outplay defending champions South Korea and lift their fourth Asia Cup title, which came after a gap of eight years.
India had last won the title in 2017 in Dhaka, after successes in the 2003 (Kuala Lumpur) and 2007 (Chennai) editions of the continental tournament.
“Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for their splendid win in the Asia Cup 2025 held in Rajgir, Bihar. This win is even more special because they have defeated the defending champions, South Korea! This is a proud moment for Indian hockey and Indian sports,” Modi tweeted on Sunday night.

India were on the ball from the start and looked determined. The coordination between the defence, midfield and forward line was a treat to watch as they kept penetrating the rival circle.
The Koreans, on the other hand, preferred to defend, which wasn’t the best of ideas against an attacking home team.
