Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has been the victim of another terrifying home burglary, the second such incident in just two years.
According to The Telegraph, masked men attempted to break into Sterling’s Berkshire home on Saturday night while the England international and his family were inside.
The 29-year-old was said to be at the property at the time, though thankfully, no one was harmed.
A spokesperson for Sterling confirmed the incident, calling it “the ultimate violation of privacy and safety,” while expressing relief that “he and his loved ones are all safe.”
The statement also urged respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
“Whilst the ultimate violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful to be able to confirm that he and his loved ones are all safe. We ask that the privacy of Raheem and his loved ones be respected at this challenging time.”
Police have launched a full investigation, with Thames Valley authorities urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
This is the second time Sterling has endured such a traumatic experience. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, his previous home was raided by masked burglars who stole around £300,000 worth of jewellery and watches, forcing him to briefly leave the England camp to be with his family.
The latest incident occurred hours before Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Wolves, from which Sterling was absent. The forward has been training away from the main squad since returning from his loan at Arsenal and is expected to leave Stamford Bridge in January, possibly on another loan move.
Sterling, who joined Chelsea in 2022 as one of the club’s marquee signings under Todd Boehly’s new ownership, was expected to bring title-winning experience to a young Blues side. However, both his form and the team’s fortunes have struggled to match expectations.
