It was predicted in this column that Raid 2 will take a start of Rs. 11-13 crores. After all, Raid had opened at Rs. 10.04 crores and with Labour Day partial holiday on Thursday, a better number was expected even though the buzz and hype had seemingly not reached optimal level. Well, as it turned out to be the case, ground level scenario was different as audiences were clearly interested in checking out the sequel of the Ajay Devgn starrer.
As it turned out to be the case, as much as Rs. 19.71 crores came in and that’s a very good number, especially considering current scenario when even scoring a double digit opening comes at a premium. In fact, even if one disregards the current situation, this number would have been really good even pre-pandemic because of the genre that it belongs to and the treatment that’s meted by director Rajkumar Gupta. It’s more of a cerebral affair and still for the film to reach this far on the fresh day itself is good.
What has also helped the film is Riteish Deshmukh’s bravura act that’s winning appreciation from all quarters. The reviews have ranged from decent to good to very good, and that’s how audience word of mouth is as well. This means that at the very least, the film will have an extended weekend of Rs. 60 crores, which means the job is done for Raid 2. An entry into the Rs. 100 Crore Club will be a cakewalk for the film, and post that it can go anywhere.
