The stories of people who clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination often inspire many. Some journeys stand out because they begin in the most unexpected ways and later lead to remarkable achievements.
One such story is that of Ravi Mohan Saini, who first came into the spotlight as a teenager on the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati Junior. Years later, the same boy would go on to become an officer in the Indian Police Service, showing how determination and hard work can shape a person’s future.
A Teenage Contestant Wins Rs 1 Crore on KBC
Ravi Mohan Saini was just 14 years old when he appeared on the quiz show in 2001. At that time, he was a Class 10 student. The show was hosted by Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Saini performed brilliantly during the quiz and answered all 15 questions correctly. His knowledge and confidence helped him win the top prize of Rs 1 crore. At the time, he had said in an interview that one of the reasons he wanted to be on the show was to meet Amitabh Bachchan.
Saini is originally from Alwar, Rajasthan, and comes from a disciplined background. His father served in the Navy before retiring. He completed his schooling at Naval Public School.
He First Chose Medicine After School
After finishing school, Saini decided to pursue medicine. He prepared for medical entrance exams and eventually secured admission to Mahatma Gandhi Medical College.
He completed his MBBS degree there and began his medical internship. During this period, he decided to try his luck in the civil services exam. Like many aspirants, he faced challenges during his first attempt.
In 2012, while still completing his internship, he appeared for the UPSC exam. He cleared the preliminary stage but was unable to pass the Mains that year.
Determination Helped Him Succeed Later
Despite the setback, Saini did not give up. He continued preparing and appeared for the exam again.
In 2013, he cleared both the Prelims and Mains and secured a position in the Indian Post and Telecom’s Accounts and Finance Services.
However, his goal was still to become a police officer. He appeared for the civil services exam once again in 2014 and secured an All India Rank of 461. This result helped him join the Indian Police Service.
His journey drew national attention again in 2021 when he was appointed as the Superintendent of Police in Porbandar.
Saini achieved this through self-study and steady effort over the years, moving from a quiz show winner as a teenager to a senior police officer.
