Report card: Mahindra XEV 9e’s 1-year innings – Introduction

The Mahindra XEV 9e debuted just over a year ago as one of the Indian carmaker’s two debut born-EVs, alongside the BE 6. While the XEV 9e itself and its prices were unveiled on November 26, 2024, Mahindra didn’t open bookings until February 14, 2025, with deliveries commencing from mid-March in a variant-wise staggered rollout. Now that the XEV 9e has completed a full year in the market, let’s have a look at the pricing and sales trajectories of Mahindra’s flagship EV so far.

  1. Total Mahindra XEV 9e year 1 sales stood at 27,973 units
  2. XEV 9e price saw no variation since launch
  3. Two new variants were added to the XEV 9e line-up

Production cap and variant-wise staggered deliveries

Before we delve into the sales data, it’s worth noting that production of the XEV 9e and BE 6 has been limited to 5,000 units a month due to capacity constraints; Mahindra is set to increase its EV production capacity to 8,000 units from March 2026. Moreover, Mahindra delivered only the range-topping XEV 9e Pack Three 79kWh variants in the initial batch last year. Deliveries of lower XEV 9e variants commenced from June 2025 onwards.

With that in mind, the XEV 9e selling an average of 2,331 units a month is quite impressive, even more so considering its less expensive sibling, the BE 6, sold an average of 1,303 units a month over the same timeframe. The trajectory of sales is also relatively flat, which indicates that the top variants of the XEV 9e attracted great demand from the outset. November 2025 saw the steepest decline in XEV 9e sales, while May 2025 was the EV’s best month in that regard.

Mahindra XEV 9e model milestones

Two variants added to the range

While the XEV 9e prices saw no variation over the past year, Mahindra did expand the EV’s variant line-up with the Pack Two 79kWh in July 2025 and the Cineluxe Edition in March 2026. The latter variant is based on the Pack Three 79kWh and gets some cosmetic tweaks inside and out.

To recap the powertrain options, the XEV 9e offers two LFP battery packs: 59kWh and 79kWh. Both are mated to a sole 380Nm rear-mounted motor that outputs 231hp in the 59kWh variants and 286hp in 79kWh guise. The ARAI-claimed XEV 9e range stands at 522km for the 59kWh battery and 656km for the 79kWh unit.

No recalls yet

At the time of writing, Mahindra has yet to issue a recall for the XEV 9e. This is quite an encouraging fact, though some minor electronics-related glitches and issues have been reported by XEV 9e owners online.
