This week has been a tragic one, to say the least. Two legendary icons of their respective realms recently passed within days of each other, leaving a generation of people mourning.
Ozzy Osbourne, the mythical frontman of heavy metal pioneers, Black Sabbath, passed away at the age of 76; while the sands of time for arguably the most important wrestler and (in)famous man in professional wrestling, Hulk Hogan, ran out at 71.
Rick Flair, a contemporary of Hogan and a legend of professional wrestling in his own right, was devastated on hearing the news of the death of his “very close friend”. Flair said that he talked to Hogan’s long-time manager and friend, Jimmy Hart and everything appeared “fine”.
“To have this happen is just horrible”, he added.
Flair, was recently subject to surgery, owing to his skin cancer diagnosis and is in the process of recovery, appearing in the video with a distinctive scar on his forehead.
Speaking to TMZ, Flair expressed that even though many people wanted to paint them as “enemies”, they remained in close contact with each other over the years. He added that they shared an undeniable “chemistry” and that it was “magic”, as he recalled being on-road with the late superstar. Flair holds the distinction of having more wins over Hogan than any other wrestler, and Hogan himself considered Flair a GOAT of wrestling.
However, head-to-head, it is Hogan who has the upper hand against Flair, winning an astonishing 81.6% of his matches against him.
Days before the passing of the Hulk, his legendary superfan and imposter, Eric Servis, also known as “Roddy Hogan”, also died owing to health issues.
Tributes from all around the world poured in for both men as they leave behind an insurmountable legacy (and a fair share of controversies) that ensure they remain immortalised for ages to come.
