No more saving face, it’s time to undergo the trial by fire for Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils boss refused to shield himself or his players from mounting scrutiny after Manchester United slumped to a humiliating 3-1 defeat at Brentford on Saturday.
The loss marked United’s third defeat in six Premier League games, leaving the former Sporting Lisbon boss under intense pressure to avoid the sack.
Brentford fans responded with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning,” underscoring the growing tension.
Amorim Faces Harsh Reality
“Ups and downs, when you win, you feel the momentum is here,” Amorim said.
“When you lose, you go back to the same place and fight for the one win that can help you create momentum. I am always doing my job. Not to protect the players or myself, but to win the next game and create momentum.”
Despite a controversial moment when Nathan Collins brought down former Bees striker Bryan Mbeumo, referee Craig Pawson awarded only a penalty, sparing Collins a red card. Amorim accepted the decision without complaint.
United’s Struggles Continue
Amorim, once considered one of Europe’s brightest young coaches, has struggled to lift United from the post-Ferguson malaise. Even with over £250 million spent on new signings, including Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, the team has faltered, losing to Arsenal, Manchester City, Brentford, and suffering a humiliating League Cup defeat to fourth-tier Grimsby.
“The penalty changed things, but we never settled down,” Amorim said. “Possession and control were never there. We play the game of Brentford, and when you play the opponents’ game it is harder to win. We need to work on a lot of things, especially transitions and final-third execution.”
United now face an urgent need to regroup ahead of their next fixtures, with the pressure on Amorim mounting by the week.
