India’s women boxers delivered standout performances at the second World Boxing Cup on Sunday, with Sakshi (54kg), Jaismine (57kg), and Nupur (+80kg) clinching gold in their respective categories through contrasting but commanding victories.

Their heroics helped India finish with its best-ever medal haul at the event — 11 medals in total, comprising three gold, five silver, and three bronze.

Golden Trio Shine on Final Day

Sakshi opened India’s gold medal account in the first session of the day with a dominant win over USA’s Yosline Perez in the women’s 54kg final. The Indian boxer’s aggressive approach, marked by sharp combination punches and quick footwork, earned her a unanimous decision from the judges.

In the evening session, Jaismine faced a stiffer challenge from Brazil’s Jucielen Cequeira Romeu in the 57kg category. With both boxers evenly matched after two rounds, the 23-year-old Indian used her superior reach and tactical counterpunching in the final round to clinch a 4:1 verdict.

Nupur wrapped up India’s golden run by overpowering Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova in the 80+kg final. After dropping the first round, Nupur came roaring back, dominating the next two with clinical precision and tactical superiority to secure a 5:0 decision.

Earlier in the day, Meenakshi (48kg) narrowly missed out on gold after a hard-fought battle against local favourite Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan, losing via a 3:2 split decision.

In the men’s finals, India had to settle for four silver medals. Jugnoo (85kg) fell to Kazakhstan’s Bekzad Nurdauletov with a 0:5 scoreline, while Pooja Rani (80kg) lost by the same margin to Australia’s Eseta Flint.

Hitesh Gulia (70kg) was outboxed by Brazil’s Kaian Oliveira, also losing 0:5, and Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) suffered a narrow 2:3 defeat against Brazil’s Yuri Falcao.

Bronze Medalists Round Out India’s Campaign

India’s campaign also saw strong performances in the semi-finals, with Sanju (women’s 60kg), Nikhil Dubey (men’s 75kg), and Narender (men’s 90+kg) all finishing with bronze medals.
