The UPSC Civil Services Examination is one of the toughest exams in the country, where failure is common and success is exceptional. Many candidates work hard for years without achieving their goal, but some stories demonstrate that strong determination can turn failure into a stepping stone for success. Such is the story of IAS Vanshika Yadav, who failed to clear the prelims in her first two attempts but eventually achieved her dream of becoming an IAS officer by securing All India Rank 6 in her third attempt.
A native of Delhi, Yadav earned an engineering degree from Delhi Technological University (DTU). After graduation, she secured a well-paid job with a multinational company. Working at a prestigious firm like Cisco in Bengaluru, she enjoyed a good salary and stable career. Despite this, she aspired to join the civil service and contribute to the nation.
While many people continue on their career path after landing a good job, Yadav decided to take a risk. She realised that if she didn’t pursue her dreams now, she would regret it forever. With this conviction, she resigned from her high-paying job to focus entirely on preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. Though challenging, her desire to become an IAS officer was unwavering.
Yadav’s family significantly contributed to her success. Her father, Rajkumar Yadav, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), and her mother, Sarita Yadav, supported her throughout her journey. Their encouragement during tough times became Vanshika’s greatest strength, enabling her to pursue her goals with full confidence.
During her UPSC preparation, Vanshika Yadav faced disappointment in her first two attempts, failing to clear the prelims exam. Where many candidates might lose hope, she viewed her failures as lessons. She adjusted her strategy, addressed her weaknesses, and prepared with increased discipline.
Vanshika Yadav’s persistent hard work and self-confidence paid off when she passed the 2019 UPSC Civil Services Examination in her third attempt, securing All India Rank 6 (AIR 6) with a score of 1046 out of 2025. Her success has inspired millions of aspirants, especially those doubting themselves due to early setbacks.
