Shweta Bhagat
Shweta Bhagat, originally from Gaya in Bihar, has achieved the position of Rajbhasha Officer under the Ministry of Home Affairs by successfully passing the UPSC exam. Her father, Sushil Bhagat, hails from the remote village of Amethi in the Wazirganj block and works as a paan seller in Kolkata. Shweta has now been posted in Indore.
In the final month of 2024, Shweta Bhagat received her posting in Indore. She completed her 10th and 12th grades in government schools in Kolkata. Following this, she continued her education and earned a Master of Arts degree from Kolkata University. Subsequently, she cleared the UPSC exam in late 2024 and became a Rajbhasha Adhikari.
Shweta shared that her father used to farm in the village but couldn’t earn enough. He then moved to Kolkata and started selling paan. When the paan shop began generating some income, he rented a house and brought Shweta along, who was around 8-9 years old at the time.
Despite the family’s poor financial condition, Sushil Bhagat worked tirelessly day and night, along with other family members. Recently, Shweta visited her village Amethi for the first time after becoming an officer, where she received a grand welcome.
Shweta remarked that her success is a matter of pride for her entire village of Amethi, as well as for her society and family. The Malakar family, to which she belongs, is considered socially and economically weak. She stayed in the house of translators in Kolkata, which inspired her to become a Rajbhasha Officer.
She achieved her dreams with determination. After filling out the UPSC form for the first time in 2023, she passed both the exam and the interview. She is now working as a Junior Translation Officer in the Official Language Department, Indore, under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Sushil Bhagat, while sharing information, mentioned that he runs a modest paan shop in Kolkata but ensured that his children’s education never suffered. Initially, the family lived in a rented house in Kolkata before he opened a new shop. Gradually, Shweta was enrolled in a government school, where she completed her studies from 5th to 10th standard and intermediate. She then earned a Master of Arts degree from Kolkata University. Afterward, she cleared the UPSC exam and became a Rajbhasha Adhikari.
